Dr Damien Foong, FNQ’s New Skin Cancer Specialist

Living in beautiful Far North Queensland means we enjoy sunshine nearly all year round – the kind of sunshine that draws people outdoors, to the beach, into the backyard, and out on the water. But with all that glorious sunshine comes something a little less glamorous – FNQ has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.

That’s why we’re so proud to welcome Dr Damien Foong to Edmonton Family Medical Centre, bringing more than 25 years of experience in Skin Cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention right here to our local community.

Dr Foong is not only a highly skilled clinician – he’s one of Australia’s most experienced skin cancer doctors. After graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Dr Foong went on to complete a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer Medicine, also at UQ – one of the few postgraduate programs in the world dedicated to this field.

His commitment to skin health didn’t stop there. Dr Foong has been a driving force in the field nationally, having served as President of the Skin Cancer College of Australasia and is currently a Fellow of the College for Skin Cancer of Australasia. His work has helped shape the way skin cancer is detected and treated across the country.

Dr Foong has a special interest in complex skin cancer procedures, including grafts and flaps, and is passionate about early detection and education to help people stay one step ahead of this very preventable disease.

With the intensity of the FNQ sun, locals are particularly vulnerable to skin damage, so regular skin checks are a must – and now, you don’t have to travel far to see one of the best in the field.

Whether it’s a spot that’s been changing, a mole that’s worrying you, or just a routine check-up to stay safe, Dr Damien Foong is here at Edmonton Family Medical Centre, offering expert care in a friendly, local setting.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ – and it’s the only one you wear every day. Let’s take care of it.
